Portraiture
Series: The Characterization of Portraiture (2019)
This series is meant to question what is considered a typical portrait. I photographed strangers and friends and asked each one of them to play around in front of the camera. This allowed me to capture fun emotions and expressions, which I could then mix with more mundane expressions. With this series I enjoyed taking my photography to a new level by mixing mediums. I painted the blue backdrop, then I took the images, printed them, and physically ripped them. Lastly, I hand stitched them together with a needle and thread.
In 2019, this series was featured in a photography exhibition at the Art Room gallery in Fort Worth, Texas. The exhibit, which ran from April 18 - May 1, featured my work along with my classmates from my portrait photography course.
Series: At Work (2019)
This series highlights the idea that there is not a clear boundary between a home life and a work life when you work in a creative field. My models, who both work in the interior design field, allowed me to photograph them at their homes and in the studio working on projects. I was very excited to work in black and white with these images because I think it showcases the intensity and hard work these women were putting into these projects both at home and in the studio.
Series: T. Helm (2019)
A series of headshots from various angles with different lighting techniques and backdrops. I enjoyed shooting this series because I was able to capture some fun and serious moments with my model, Taylor.
Series: Ben (2018)
The series, Ben, is a narrative of and tribute to my grandpa. This collection of images is meant to highlight his mannerisms and showcase his daily routine and lifestyle. My grandpa has played a significant role in raising me and what I admire most about this series was my ability to capture authentic moments and expressions. These images are meant to help you understand his environment and who he is. Each moment, action, and the items in the space were true to the moment the photograph was taken. This final series was chosen from over 400 images taken in the course of a weekend.
Series: Child at Play (2018)
In these photos, I have captured a sequence of events occurring as the subject displays typical actions of a young child. This series is a dedication of work showing that no matter what society expects of young adults they will always be children at heart. These images capture a college student performing acts that are familiar and common among young children, including dancing, swinging on a swing set, jumping on a trampoline, and playing in the bluebonnets. The decision to make them triads was to capture the full emotional range of the action.
Series: Home (2018)
This series was inspired by Rachael Banks' collection "Between Home and Here." Similarly to Banks, I found myself feeling a bit homesick and not realizing the impact my life at home had on me. I chose to photograph some of the people and places that have shaped me into who I am today. This included photographing two of my best friends, one of whom is also my cousin, around my family's property.
Typology
Series: Keys (2018)
Keys is a typology series documenting differences and similarities amongst people. Specifically, this series focuses on the unique personalities of students through their key chains. Everyone has them, but the types of keys and the items people attach to the rings set each person apart and make each chain one of a kind. Many people use their key chains to show aspects of their persona and highlight what is important to them. The purpose of photographing keys is to dive deeper to discover what distinguishes people, one from the others.
In 2019, this series was submitted and chosen for display as part of the Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Art Competition. Four of the images in this series hung in the Dallas/ Fort Worth office of Mercedes-Benz until 2021.
