Synopsis:
Follow 12-year-old Percy Jackson as he discovers the world is not as simple as he once believed. All the myths are true, the Greek gods and goddesses are real, and one of them happens to be his dad. Percy is now realizing all the crazy things he has seen in life are not all in his head. And now that he knows the truth about who he is, monsters and the gods are coming after him. Percy is chosen to embark on a quest, with his best friend Grover, who also happens to be part goat, and the wise girl from camp, Annabeth. Together they must find Zeus’s missing lightning bolt and prevent a war amongst the gods, all within 10 days. This story follows Percy as he discovers who he is, battles monsters he once believed were fantasy, and tries to prevent World War 3.
This interpretation of The Lightning Thief is for a series on television or a streaming service. Some scenes include fighting, monsters, and other fantasy characters that could be scary for younger children. This is why I believe this production should have a PG-13 audience.

Percy Jackson is a 12-year-old New Yorker, with black hair and eyes like the ocean. He is a kid who has felt like a failure his whole life. His dyslexia and ADHD always made it hard for him to focus in school. Weird things always happened to him, which led to his expulsion from six schools in six years. When we first meet him, he is on a school field trip to The Met, with Yancy Academy, his latest school. Yancy is a “private boarding school for troubled kids in upstate New York.” It is on this field trip that Percy’s life truly changes. No one is who he thought they were, including himself. Percy learns that his father was not lost at sea; His dad actually rules over the seas and is the god Poseidon. This means he is a demigod: half-human, half-god. His best friend is actually a satyr sent to keep him safe, his favorite teacher is a centaur famous for training heroes, and his least favorite teacher is a deadly monster who wants to kill him. These revelations cause a series of events that lead Percy to Camp Half-Blood, the only safe place for demigod children. But once he arrives, and learns more about who he truly is, he must leave camp to embark on a quest to prevent a war amongst the gods and save his mother.
This look for Percy focuses on where he is in life before everything changed. He is a misfit who expects the worse to happen to him. This can be seen in his school uniform. Traditionally, private schools are very strict about their uniform requirements, including what items must be worn, in what color, and how they should fit on the body. For Percy, he sees this more as a suggestion. He wears the required pieces so that he doesn’t get in trouble, but he doesn’t look well-kept. He is not the traditional clean cut. His shirt is not buttoned all the way, his tie is loose, his pants are wrinkled, and his shirt has a stain on it. He pairs his uniform with his old beat up converse. The best way to describe him is disheveled. The fabrics for this look are traditional uniform materials. This includes a cotton twill for his pants, a polyester blend blazer, a 100% polyester tie, and a 100% cotton dress shirt. The color scheme of his uniform is navy with white trim. Percy’s look also includes what his future sword, Riptide, looks like.

Annabeth is the 12 year old, daughter of Athena. She is tan with wavy blonde hair and grey eyes. She is Camp Half-Blood’s longest attendee, after arriving at the young age of seven. She is intelligent and a great problem solver and organizer. She dreams of being an architect someday. But all she can think about right now is having the opportunity to leave camp and explore the world, which she knows is only possible if she goes on a quest. When Percy arrives at camp, she believes he is the key to everything. His arrival could explain the crazy and unexplainable weather and natural disasters, the weird things happening at camp, and the subject of the most recent rumor and prophecy. He could also be her ticket out of camp.
Camp Half-Blood, located on the Long Island Sound, is the only safe place for demigods where monsters can not reach them. This camp is run by the god Dionysus, with Chiron as the activities director. Chiron, a centaur, is famous for training young heroes. At the camp, the kids identify by their Greek god or goddess parent. Their parents determine who they typically spend their time with, who they train with, and who they live with. Camp Half-Blood is like a traditional camp with activities like volleyball and arts and crafts. They also have a mess hall, amphitheater, and cabins. Each Cabin is unique in structure and meant to represent the twelve main gods and goddesses, aka the half-bloods parents. Camp Half-Blood also has untraditional camp activities. These include caring for pegasi, forging weapons in the armory, battling practice in the arena, and playing capture the flag in the woods with real weapons and magic.
When we meet Annabeth at camp, she is in the typical camp attire, minus the battle armor for training. This look is meant to show the general look of the campers. They are comfortable, practical, and prepared for anything. She is in her orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt and some khaki shorts. Annabeth has adapted this traditional look to fit her own personality. She wears high-waisted khaki shorts, with her dagger attached to her belt. She has turned her beaded camp necklace (that signifies her years there) into a choker. In this look, she layers her camp t-shirt on top of a stripped long sleeve t-shirt. She also always has her light blue Yankees invisibility cap close by.

Grover is Percy’s best and only friend at Yancy Academy. He has curly reddish-brown hair, and a wispy goatee to match. At Yancy, Grover is constantly picked on for his looks, behavior, and disability. He looks older with his acne and goatee. He also tends to eat weird food and sometimes the trash with it. Percy is always defending Grover against the bullies. But sometimes Percy finds himself also questioning Grover’s odd behavior. When Percy learns who he is, he also learns who his best friend is. Grover is a satyr, a half-human half-goat Greek creature. He is human from the waist up and goat from the waist down. And he was sent to Yancy Academy to protect Percy and bring him safely to Camp-Half Blood.
When Grover is at camp, he can be who he truly is, a satyr. He can comfortably walk around camp with his goat legs and horns on display. And he can eat all the tin cans in public he wants. But when he is in the real world, he must conceal the goat part of himself. Grover uses crutches as a disguise to explain the odd way he walks. He wears a hat to hide his horns. He must also wear fake feet and shoes to hide his hooves.
This look focuses on what Grover looks like in the real world, while on a quest with Percy and Annabeth. They have set out to find the entrance to the underworld. They are also trying to maintain a low profile, as much as they can, as three young children traveling cross country alone and unsupervised. Grover’s look reveals all that they have endured so far. This includes battling Hades’ Furies and escaping an exploding bus. They have also been sleeping and running through a forest in the rain. His clothes are muddy and torn. His beanie is askew. And he is lucky he hasn’t lost one of the flying shoes he was gifted upon their departure from camp. This look shows the struggle these young kids have faced just a few days after leaving camp.

Chiron is known in Greek mythology as one of the most intelligent and helpful centaurs to ever live. He is the son of Kronos, like the Greek gods Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. He is half-man from the waist up and half-horse from the waist down. His horse counterpart is a white stallion. In many Greek myths, Chiron is responsible for training the greatest heroes including Hercules, Jason, and Achilles. He is also known for his great knowledge of medicines.
When Percy meets Chiron, he is known to Percy by another name, Mr. Brunner. Mr. Brunner is Percy’s Latin teacher at Yancy Academy, who is always pushing Percy to do better and to expand his knowledge of Greek mythology. Even though Percy gets annoyed by how much Mr. Brunner pushes him, Mr. Brunner is still his favorite teacher. And what Percy doesn’t realize is that Chiron was sent to Yancy to teach and protect him. It is Chiron who gives Percy his basic knowledge of the Greek myths that aren’t actually myths to either of them. It is also Chiron who gifts Percy his beloved weapon, Riptide.
As Mr. Brunner, Chiron has been preparing Percy to discover who he really is. While at Yancy, he, like Grover, must hide the animal part of himself. To do this, he has an enchanted wheelchair that conceals his horse legs when he is out in the real world. In this look, Chiron’s human form, Mr. Brunner, is depicted. He is in a nice but slightly dated tweed suit with a dress shirt and sweater vest underneath. Mr. Brunner is very proper and put together.

Clarisse is a very confident and edgy camper that Percy meets at Camp-Half Blood. She is the 14-year old daughter of Ares and it shows. She has a short temper, is always up for a challenge, and tends to bully the other campers. She is fearless and incredibly strong. She has long brown hair and dark eyes. When Percy first meets Clarisse, it is not under great circumstances. She is trying to shove his head in a toilet as her own personal initiation ritual to camp. And throughout the series, their relationship remains this way. Percy has respect for Clarisse as a warrior but does not like her as a person.
This look for Clarisse is for the camp’s capture the flag game. Capture the flag looks very different at Camp Half-Blood. The cabins split into two teams, decked out in full body armor, and battle each other for the flag. It is an opportunity for the campers to learn real battle and strategy skills. All magical devices and weapons are allowed. In this game, Percy is on the opposing team to Clarisse. This look focuses on when Clarisse goes after Percy during the game. She is wearing a long sleeve and leggings under her armor for coverage, protection, and mobility. Her armor is bronze metal and leather with leather closures. She has a helmet with a red plume on top to match her team. She is wearing her favorite combat boots. And her magical weapon of choice is her electric spear gifted to her by her father. She also is prepared with a knife in a holster attached to her thigh.

The Oracle is a gift to the mortal world from the Greek god Apollo in Greek mythology. She answers questions and tells fortunes to visitors who ask her. In stories, those who sought answers would have to complete animal sacrifices and other rituals to be allowed into the Oracle’s temple. In this story’s depiction, the Oracle can take on new forms. The Oracle lives at Camp Half-Blood in the attic of the Big House, the camp’s main offices. When a camper is given a quest, they must consult the Oracle, who gives them a prophecy.
When Percy meets the Oracle of Delphi, she is a mummy-like figure that has green mist come out of her mouth as she speaks. She is wearing dated clothing that appears to be from the late 60s or early 70s. In this look, she is dressed in a hippie style. She is in a bold tie dye pattern. She is wearing an ankle length cotton prairie dress with a polyester and lace slip underneath. Her dress is thin with long bell sleeves. She has long black hair with bangs, which was popular at the time. She is also wearing a head scarf, feather earrings, and lots of beaded necklaces. Her mummified state reflects in her clothing with stains and rips. She was once very stylish and on trend for her time, but in the attic giving out prophecies, she creeps out the campers, especially 12-year-old Percy.

Medusa is a very well-known evil creature in Greek mythology. She is known for having serpents for hair and for turning her prey to stone just with one look. Medusa was once considered a beautiful mortal woman. She had two immortal sisters and they were all known as Gorgons. Greek myths state that Poseidon had a relationship with the beautiful mortal Medusa. The myth states that they had an affair in Athena’s temple, which was disrespectful, and as a punishment Athena cursed her. Athena turned Medusa into an immortal and vile creature like her sisters. In Greek mythology Perseus, the son of Zeus was sent on a quest to kill and behead Medusa as a gift for the king. However, in this interpretation, it is Percy, the son of Poseidon, who must battle her.
In this series, Medusa is luring innocent victims, both human and mythical, to her shop called Aunty Em’s Garden Gnome Emporium. She lures them in and turns them to stone for the pretense of selling them to others who come. When Percy and his friends meet her, they have nearly escaped more monsters and are starving. They wander into her shop and diner for some food before they continue their journey. Medusa acts as a concerned woman, who questions why three children are out at night alone and offers to feed them.
Medusa’s look is a modern take on villains. She is in dark hues and an edgier silhouette. Medusa is in a lace and pleather lace up corset bodice. She is also wearing high-waisted, fitted pleather pants with many style lines. She has an elaborate hat with a veil to keep her snake hair and eyes concealed, but some of the snake heads try to peak out.

Hades is one of the most powerful Greek gods in Greek mythology. He is the son of Kronos and brothers with Poseidon and Zeus. When he and his brothers took down their father, they drew lots to see which domains they would rule over. He rules over the underworld and all dead souls. He is also the only Olympic god to not reside on Mount Olympus. When Percy and his friends meet Hades, they have just snuck into the Underworld. They have convinced Charon, the boatman, to let them cross the River Styx to the gates of Hades domain. They have tricked the 3 headed guard dog Cerberus to let them pass. And they have passed Tartarus (the lowest domain) and the nicest area, the Elysian Fields to get to Hades’ palace.
Hades, in his godly form, is about 10 feet tall. When he talks to Percy and his friends, he has shifted to his human form. He has dark shoulder length hair, dark eyes, and pale skin from not being out in the sun. Hades has a dark and edgy persona. He wears all black head to toe. For this look, he is in many layers. He has a modernized hipster look. Hades’ look features many different fabric weights and textures. He has drop waisted MC Hammer style pants with rib knit waist and ankle bands. He has a high neck long coat and a long draped neck scarf over a tank. He is also wearing fingerless leather gloves and combat boots Hades has a magical helmet that is known as the Helm of Darkness that gives him the power of invisibility.

Poseidon is the Greek god of the seas. He is the son of Kronos and brother to Hades and Zeus. In Greek myths he is considered one of the most disruptive gods for mortals causing many natural disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes. He is also known as the protector of fishermen and the patron of horses. Poseidon rules over his domain in his underwater palace. He is also known in myths for having many affairs and having many famous children including Triton, Theseus, the cyclops Polyphemus, the flying horse Pegasus, and Orion the hunter. He is often depicted with his magical weapon, the trident.
In Percy’s world, Poseidon is more than a powerful god. Poseidon is his father. When Percy discovers this, he is not sure how he feels. He is happy to learn his father was not lost at sea, but he is upset to learn his father chose to stay away. When Percy meets him for the first time at the end of his quest, he is in his godly form, but he chooses to shift to his human form to talk to Percy. In his human form, he looks like a simple fisherman. He is tan with salt and pepper wavy hair, face scruff, and sea-green eyes just like Percy’s. He is wearing a Hawaiian shirt with an obnoxious ocean print. He is also wearing cargo short and flip flops. He also has his powerful trident in hand.

Zeus is the king of the Olympian gods. He rules over the sky and is known as the god of thunder. He gained his position after defeating his father the titan lord Kronos with his brothers Hades and Poseidon. His most powerful magical weapon is his master lightning bolt. He is in charge of maintaining order amongst the gods and overseeing the human world. His palace is located on Mount Olympus. This is where Percy first meets the almighty god.
As Percy is finishing up his quest, he must go to Mount Olympus to return Zeus’ master lightning bolt. While there, Percy sees Zeus in his godly form. He is 10 feet tall with dark hair and beard. In his godly form, his attire is reflective of the time he was worshiped in ancient Greece. He wears a traditional chiton, that is belted at the waist with an embroidered trim. The same trim is also along the bottom of his chiton. His chiton is fastened one his left shoulder with a broach. He also wears strappy sandals and has is master lightning bolt in hand.
